God is enough

“Be strong in the Lord; draw your strength from Him.” Ephesians 6:10 Amplified

“Learn to depend more on God and less on yourself.”

My thoughts today are that “God is enough!”

Life can make demands that have a way of making you feel less than adequate. In the course of everyday life, you inevitably face needs beyond your resources, hard questions without an adequate answer, tasks bigger than abilities, and challenges greater than your courage. The question is: what will you do when a fitting response is required?

Some people meet such moments and simply give up trying, convinced they are unable, so why try. Their non-response prevents them from realizing their potential or the possibilities in God. If you defer everything you think you cannot do, you will soon find that you can do less and less. Paul asked the question everyone asks themselves at one time or another, “Who is sufficient for these things?” 2 Corinthians 2:16 NKJV.

Before you incorrectly answer Paul’s rhetorical question, read on and find his answer – “And we have such trust through Christ toward God. Not that (you) are sufficient to think anything as being of (yourself), but (your) sufficiency is from God, Who also made (you) sufficient as a minister of the new Covenant . . of the Spirit for . . the Spirit gives life.” 2 Corinthians 3:5-6 NKJV. That’s your answer; God is sufficient and empowers you with His own sufficiency. Is God ever less than enough? Here is God’s promise of being able to “supply all your need according to His riches in Glory by Christ Jesus. Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.” Philippians 4:19-20 NKJV.

Blessed is the individual who learns that God is not limited by your limitations. Read 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 NKJV. Don’t be surprised when God asks you to step out in courageous, daring faith to do something you don’t feel qualified to do. Why would God ask such a thing of you? That’s exactly when and where you learn to depend more on God and less on yourself, as those the Bible describes as going “from strength to strength.” Psalm 84:7 NIV. At such times, you discover you are capable of more than you dared imagine, because God is working in you – “Who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.” Ephesians 3:20 NIV.

Dependence on God is strength, not weakness. This Bible verse says it all, “In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered trough your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him {that strength which His boundless might provides].” Ephesians 6:10 Amplified Bible. The maximum power is available to you from the ultimate Source, God Almighty! Paul describes a harrowing experience in Asia with “pressure far beyond our ability to endure, so that we even despaired of life . . this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.” 2 Corinthians 1:8-11 NIV. How could God “who raises the dead” not be enough for any and all situations?

My prayer for you today is: learn that depending on God is when you are most strong.

Right things to do

“It would not be right for us . .” Acts 6:2 NIV

“The easiest or familiar is seldom the best or right thing.”

My thoughts today are about the “right thing to do.”

I am not thinking so much about things right or wrong, as I am about differentiating between the good and best. It is often said that “good is the enemy of the best.” Something may seem to be good enough but good enough will never accomplish what’s best. Your best is always the right thing to do.

There will always seem more than you have enough time, energy, or ability to do; that could be because there are some things you aren’t meant to do. A successful life is found in knowing what is yours to do and doing that well; a highly successful life is reserved for those who also know what they are not meant to do, and leave those things to others. The latter is more important than you may realize.

Success eventually requires hard choices. The very abilities, effort, energy, and focus that brings success in your endeavors can be stretched thin by a growing diversity of demands and expectations. When you are feeling the pressure to do more than you have time or ability to do, demands and deadlines will sometimes clarify what is “your business to do,” and what is none of your business.

The first century Church in Jerusalem grew so rapidly that the apostles could not keep up with everything that needed to be done. There was a problem no caring person would deny; some people were not being taken care of in an equitable manner as others were. For this to be done should something else be left undone? Wisely, the apostles in charge evaluated the problem as proper food distribution to both Greek and Hebrew widows – reaffirmed the priorities as prayer and the teaching of God’s Word – and made a choice both wise and practical; this is something that must be done but can be done by others. Always do the right thing simply because it is the right thing to do.

Their reasoning? “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the Word of God to wait on tables. Choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them . . this proposal pleased the whole group.” Acts 6:2-5 NIV. Life is better when you keep it clear and simple. The apostles recognized that the investment of themselves in what had arisen would mean their neglect of what was their priority. While you busy yourself doing what someone else could do, you miss what you should do. Every responsibility is not necessarily your responsibility. “They made me keeper of the vineyards, but my own vineyard I have neglected.” Song 1:6 NIV. Multi-gifted people are especially tempted in this area. Knowing how and when to say no is as important as being willing to say yes.

You are more effective when you are occupied with the things that are right for you – that best fit your skill-set and are within your Godly assignment. The easiest and familiar thing to do is seldom the best or right thing for you. Few of us are given the luxury of opportunity and authority to always do what we would prefer to do, nor should we. Effectiveness comes with focus; focus comes from priorities. That’s where you find the right thing for you. The Apostle Paul determined, “I am focusing all my energies in this one thing . .” Philippians 3:13 NLT. See Psalm 27:4 NKJV.

My prayer for you today is that you do what you know God has given you to do.

Sight Unseen

“We live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV

“Faith is a non-negotiable for experiencing God.”

My thoughts today are about “sight unseen.”

People say that “seeing is believing,” but is that always true? With the capability of CGI special effects (Computer Generated Imagery) and the ability to Photoshop digital pictures, can it still be assumed that “seeing is believing?” With today’s digital gymnastics can you believe everything you see, really?

That assumption was turned upside down when Jesus said that “believing is seeing!” When Thomas, a disciple of Jesus, was told of Jesus’ resurrection, he dismissed the claim, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.” John 20:25/29 NKJV. Imagine Thomas’ surprise when Jesus appeared, alive and well! “Because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Jesus reserved His praise for those who believed sight unseen!

Paul instructed the believers at Corinth, “We live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV. Which describes your spiritual life – faith or sight? Sight is the folly of trusting only what you can physically experience for yourself through your five senses – seeing, touching, hearing, smelling, tasting. Here’s the problem with that requirement. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him. But we know these things because God has revealed them to us by His Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 NLT.

Faith rests solely on what God says to be true, strengthened by the personal testimony of those who have found His Word reliable. “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1 NIV. Faith envisions a greater reality, sight unseen.

“So you see, it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that there is a God and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6 NLT. Faith is a non-negotiable for experiencing God. How do you develop and practice that kind of faith? “Fix your eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18 NIV.

Be clear on this: faith is not talking a good game; faith is acting according to, and consistent with, your faith. Faith is not a mental exercise or a talking point; it is obedience and action. “By faith, Enoch pleased God . . by faith, Noah built . . by faith, Abraham obeyed . . by faith, Sarah conceived . . by faith, Moses forsook . . by faith, Israel passed through the Red Sea . . through faith subdued, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped lions, quenched violence, escaped the  sword, were strong, became valiant, turned armies to flight, received their dead raised to life.” Read Hebrews 11:2-39 NKJV. Faith results in action verbs -something you are empowered to  do at the prompting of your faith. That’s what real, Biblical faith can do, sight unseen!

My prayer for you today is that you anchor your life on the integrity of God’s Word.

Christmas is Amazing!

“They spread the word . . about this Child, and all who heard it were amazed.” Luke 2:17 NKJV

“No matter what else has been ordinary in your life, Christmas is amazing!”

My thoughts today are that “Christmas is amazing.”

An amazing life is exactly what I think every person is looking for - amazing relationships and friends, an amazing job, an amazing marriage and family, and an amazing faith experience. People yearn for life out of the ordinary, somehow beyond the routine and predictable, that’s stimulating and invigorating, an exciting adventure that makes one’s heart beat faster, your eyes sparkle with expectation, and your dreams feel closer.

A lot of things are described as amazing, some sincerely, others not so much. Steve Jobs and Apple Corporation amazed an industry industry with the IPod and IPhone, and more recently, the IPad. Too many advertised gadgets fall far short of that overused adjective. Really, there aren’t many times or places where such a description is true. Maybe your experience of something or some place seems amazing at first, but seldom remains so.

Each year, you find many things you hope to be spectacular can’t quite live up to their promise or your expectations. The NBA advertises itself as “where amazing happens!” That’s probably a promise bigger than the NBA can achieve – entertaining, yes; amazing, not really. But I know where amazing really does happen; that happens in your heart when you invite Jesus there.

I want you to hear God whisper into your heart, “No matter where else things have been ordinary in your life, Christmas is where amazing happens!” Here’s what the Bible says about Jesus’ birth, “When they had seen Him, the shepherds spread the word concerning what had been told them (by the Angel) about this Child, and all who heard it were amazed.” Luke 2:17-18 NKJV. All who heard the shepherds’ testimony were amazed. Christmas is amazing because a child, conceived supernaturally and born miraculously, was God’s one and only Son who became your Savior, dying on a cross to express God’s astonishing love and grace - in order to give you an amazing life you long for, abundantly now and eternally forever. An amazing life is your choice.

“When the right time came, God sent His Son, born of a woman . . so He could adopt us as His very own children.” Galatians 4:4-7 NLT. Now that’s truly amazing! Deep in the heart of every person is the yearning in one’s soul that you need a Savior. Every effort of your own fails to provide that needed forgiveness, cleansing, and newness. Christmas is all about a Savior! Jesus can make amazing happen in your heart. John 3:16-17.

Christmas is God’s promise that the deepest longing of your heart can be realized. If Christmas is less than amazing to you, it is because you are missing Jesus at the center of your celebration. You alone cannot repair the damage to the soul that sin has done; you cannot just start over and do better. To be redeemed; you need a Redeemer. Romans 8:32-39 NIV. Now that’s when and where amazing really happens, not just at Christmas but any and every day.

My prayer this Christmas is that you will spread the word about this amazing Child.

Christmas 2011 and the New Year 2012

Christmas 2011 and New Year 2012

I trust that you enjoyed a blessed and joyous Christmas with family and friends. The real gifts of Christmas are not the ones gaily wrapped and waiting under a lighted, ornament adorned tree, however lovingly chosen and joyfully given they are. The real gift of Christmas is the One the Bible calls God’s “indescribable Gift” – His Son Jesus – and the irreplaceable gifts of love and companionship from family and friends! Whatever your circumstances right now, the blessing and joy of a Savior’s birth can be, and should be, yours on Christmas Day and every day of life that follows.

I think I will take the next few days to enjoy this transitional week from the well worn year of 2011 and the waiting-to-be-discovered 2012. I will resume EveryDay Life for the New Year, and hope that you will continue to invest a brief bit of your mornings with me in giving priority everyday to the wisdom and encouragement of God’s powerful Word. Even a few minutes each day can result in amazing spiritual life and development. I so enjoy sharing thoughts and comments that God has invested in my life, and continues to develop and broaden.

This year has seen a growing circle of readers in Bulgaria where EveryDay Life has been translated by a friend and pastor, Lusi Arsov. Just a bit less than 2,ooo readers have signed up to receive EDL there. And this year has seen new readers in Norway, Philippines, Spain, and China, and many friends that report they forward EveryDay Life to friends with their comment or recommendation. I am glad that you are part of sharing God’s Word with others. I am often encouraged by the kind and timely responses I have received from many of you of how God has touched your heart or given you EDL as a tool to share an encouraging word with someone else. Your encouragement and partnership is an invaluable gift from God.

Let’s anticipate the sovereign intervention of God in our lives, families, churches, communities, nation, and world in 2012. He is truly God Who “crowns the year with His goodness.” Let’s press on to know the Lord together . .

The God-Kind of Love Forgives

The God-Kind of Love Forgives

What is the God-kind of love like? The God-kind of love is full of kindness and is tenderhearted. Since God’s love is kind and tenderhearted, it is always ready to forgive.

Ephesians 4:32

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, FORGIVING ONE ANOTHER, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” Sometimes I think people interpret this verse by saying that we are to forgive people only when they are kind to us. But that’s not what the Bible says.
This scripture also doesn’t say, “Forgive one another when the offense doesn’t amount to much. But if people have done a lot against you, then it’s okay to not forgive them.” The verse doesn’t read that way, but too many times that is the way people practice it. Too many Christians allow their flesh to rule them, and then wonder why they aren’t receiving God’s best in their lives. But it’s impossible to walk in the God-kind of love while allowing the flesh to rule. If we’re going to obey the Bible, we have to let the inward man rule us so we can be “kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another.” It’s only as we “put on” Christ and make no provision for the flesh (Rom. 13:14) that we will be able to forgive one another, even as God for Christ’s sake forgave us.
How can we forgive the way God forgives? Well, the Bible says that God is love. And the same kind of love that God is has been shed abroad in our heart, or spirit, by the Holy Spirit (Rom. 5:5). What kind of love is it? Is it natural, human love? No, it is divine love. It is the God-kind of love. And one characteristic of the God-kind of love is that it forgives. Another thing about divine love-when God forgives, He forgets!

Isaiah 43:25

“I, even I, am he that BLOTTETH OUT THY TRANSGRESSIONS for mine own sake, and WILL NOT REMEMBER thy sins.” Hebrews 8:12 says, “For I will BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”
These scriptures tell us that once we ask forgiveness, God doesn’t remember our sins anymore. God doesn’t say, “I’m going to hold against you everything you’ve ever done, and I’m going to remind you of your sins every time I think of them.” Thank God, this verse says that when we ask forgiveness, God will remember our sins no more! Sometimes husbands and wives can be prone to remind each other of past mistakes every time a disagreement arises. There’s no way they can develop a good relationship if they keep doing that. Also, if spouses constantly remind each other of past mistakes and failures, it will ruin their prayer lives and will make their faith inoperative.

1 Peter 3:7

7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; THAT YOUR PRAYERS BE NOT HINDERED.
If husbands and wives hold unforgiveness and ill will against each other, it can affect their health, and their prayers will be hindered. Their faith won’t work. You want your prayers to be unhindered, don’t you? Then walk in love and forgiveness. Learn to forgive and forget like God does. You see, if you really love people and forgive them, you will not keep reminding them of their past mistakes, sins, and failures. You will not keep reminding them about the way they hurt you, let you down, or offended you.
Now the devil may bring a picture to your mind of something that happened between you and another person. But you don’t have to entertain the devil’s thoughts. You can go on your way and walk in forgiveness, knowing that the Lord has forgiven you of your sin, failures, and shortcomings, and that you have forgiven the other person. Some people say, “Well, I just can’t forgive.” But that doesn’t line up with the Scriptures, because if you are born again, the God-kind of love has been shed abroad in your heart. Other people say, “Well, I can’t forgive the way God does because I’m not God.” Of course, you’re not God! But, you see, God forgives because He is love (1 John 4:8). And the same kind of love that God is dwells in you. Therefore, you can forgive with His love, just as God does.
Because the love of God has been shed abroad in our heart by the Holy Ghost, that means that God even furnishes the love for you and me to forgive with! Too many believers make the mistake of going by their head instead of their heart. So divine love not only forgives, it forgets! That’s the way God wants us to forgive too. And we can forgive and forget because God has already furnished His love in our heart, enabling us to forgive. Therefore, there’s no excuse for failure in our ability to forgive.

Colossians 3:13

“Forbearing one another, and FORGIVING ONE ANOTHER, if any man have a quarrel against any: EVEN AS CHRIST FORGAVE YOU, SO ALSO DO YE.”
You see, when we walk in the light of the Word, we can enjoy all the benefits thereof. But to walk in the light of the Word, we have to walk in love and forgiveness. There is something else we need to see about how love and forgiveness work together regarding answered prayer. Unforgiveness-the lack of forgiveness-is one hindrance to prayer that Jesus Himself mentioned.

Mark 11:23-25

23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. 25 And when ye stand PRAYING, FORGIVE, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
A lot of times, people take these verses out of context and make them say something they don’t say. Then, they try to make them work, anyway. But, you see, there are some conditions involved in getting Mark 11:23 and 24 to work. Did you ever notice that many of the promises of God are conditional? You see, the blessings of God don’t just fall on us like ripe cherries off a tree. You have your part to play-you have some responsibility in the matter. When Jesus tells us inMark 11:23 and 24 that we can have what we say, we all rejoice and are thrilled with His words. And we should be. But that is not all Jesus said about answered prayer.
Mark 11:23 and 24 do not present the whole story on the subject of faith. For example, in Galatians 5:6, the Bible has something else to say about faith. It says that faith only works by love. So you won’t be able to get your faith to work for you if you’re not walking in love and forgiveness. I don’t care how many biblical confessions you make or how scriptural they are-your faith won’t work without the God-kind of love. You can make all the confessions you want, but they won’t work for you unless you forgive. You can get up every morning and go through your list, take time out at noon to make faith confessions, and even get up in the middle of the night and repeat the same confessions-and your faith still won’t work for you unless you’re walking in love. You could make your faith confessions like that for a hundred years, but your faith simply will not work in an atmosphere of unforgiveness.
You see, believing you have your petition and confessing your faith with your mouth is only part of effective faith and receiving answers to prayer. In fact,Mark 11:23 and 24 won’t work without Mark 11:25: “And when ye stand praying, FORGIVE. . . .” Why won’t verses 23 and 24 work without verse 25? Because faith won’t work without love, and love forgives.
Notice that verse 25 begins with the word “and.” The word “and” is a conjunction. It joins what Jesus just finished saying to what He’s about to say. Notice what Jesus had just said in Mark 11:24: “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when YE PRAY. . . .” Jesus was talking about prayer. And He was still talking about how to make your faith effectual in verse 25 when He said, “When you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive.” When you pray-forgive! Why did Jesus say that? Because Jesus knew that if we have an air of unforgiveness about us, our prayers won’t be effectual. Faith only works by love (Gal. 5:6).
Now if Jesus had just said, “When you stand praying, you’ll have your petition,” we’d all have it made. But He didn’t stop there. He said that when we stand praying, we have to do something. What do we have to do? Forgive! If we have aught (or anything) against anyone, we have to forgive. This great truth bears repeating: Prayer and faith won’t work when there is an air of unforgiveness about you! And unforgiveness is what has so many people stymied in their faith and prayer life. Whether you realize it or not, a lack of compassion and an unwillingness to forgive others are the things that hinder us from receiving from God and from growing spiritually. Unforgiveness will hinder us from being what God wants us to be and from being who God wants us to be.
In Mark 11:25, Jesus said, “When you stand praying, forgive if ye have aught against anyone.” The word “aught” means any kind of grudge or ill will or wrong feeling about anyone at all. That means a little grudge, a middle-sized grudge, or a big grudge-anything at all against another person. God’s Word works, but you have to be a doer of God’s Word before it will work for you. Part of being a doer of God’s Word is to forgive others and to forgive yourself too. It’s believing, acting on, and confessing God’s Word that makes it work for you. You can’t act on the Word and be a doer of God’s Word if you aren’t willing to forgive. It’s absolutely impossible. So learn to forgive so you can receive God’s best in life. Practice what Paul did. Forget those things which are behind and “press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:14).

Prayer

Prayer - Intimacy with God

Why Pray?

Teach us to pray

Prayer fulfils the Purpose of God in Salvation

The purpose of salvation is to restore lost people to relationship with God our Father. Through the cross of Jesus, the barriers to that relationship were removed. When we begin to trust God once again and turn from our sin, He comes into our lives to begin a new relationship of love with us. God is in every true Christian (Romans 8:9,10; John 14:23; Revelation 3:20; 2 Corinthians 13:5). Our faith and love towards God will lead us to recognise His presence with us, to talk with Him, to listen to Him, to sense Him. This is prayer. We express our thanks, our faith, our love, our hopes with God in prayer, and we receive from Him answers, assurance, guidance, peace, strength, power, revelation of who He is and what He wants to do. (Matthew 7:7-8; John 16:13; Philippians 4:6-7; Ephesians 1:17,18 ).

WHAT IS PRAYER?
talking with Father God
For true Christians, prayer [Gk: "proseuche"] is "communion with God". Through prayer we actually experience relationship with God. The quality of our prayer life then determines the quality of our relationship with God. Prayer is talking with God. Prayer is listening to God. Prayer is enjoying the presence of God. It can take many forms - for example: worship, confession, thanksgiving, praise, petition (asking for things), waiting (silent, listening and sensing of God) and warfare (command). If we are baptised in the Spirit we can pray with the spirit, in languages unknown to us but not to God. (1 Corinthians 14:2,14).
Prayer is not simply saying words. It is not repeating formulas. God is looking for heartfelt relationship. We are told by Jesus not to make meaningless repetitions of words when we pray. (Mathew 6:7). Tongues may be meaningless to our understanding, but it is not to God. In a future lesson we will give more attention to this subject.
There is a lot of prayer that never reaches God. "The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself" (Luke 18:11). "One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer shall be an abomination." (Proverbs 28:9). It is outside the scope of this lesson to talk about prayers offered to false gods or to the devil. Also, we will not look at religious prayers or traditional prayers that can be uttered without heart. We will be considering prayers that come from one who has repented of his sins to the best of his knowledge, and who walks by faith.
HERE is another article related to prayer, and getting prayer answers.
power of prayer
WHY PRAY?
1. We pray because we love God. We spend time with God in prayer and communion because we love him. Just as a man and woman in love desire to be together and communicate, so we - if we love God - will desire to be with Him and to fellowship with Him in proportion to our love for Him.
2. We pray because we depend on God. God is our source. He is our life (Colossians 3:4). Through prayer we receive the comfort, the strength and all the other resources that we need in life - both naturally and spiritually. Prayer - relationship to God - is as necessary to the spiritual life as air to the natural life.
3. We need to pray in order to resist temptation. "Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation." (Mt. 26:41). Much sin is the result of the sin of prayerlessness. Through lack of prayer, we are weak, others are weaker and Satan gains the advantage in our lives.
4. We need to pray because it is necessary for men to invite God to act in salvation. God gave the earth to Adam and his descendants. We must invite God to work here. If no-one invites God to work here, Satan (the god of this world through man's universal rebellion - 2 Corinthians 4:4) will dominate the affairs of men and eventually the judgment of God will come. By inviting God often and specifically, multitudes can be saved that would otherwise be lost.
5. We need to pray because God commands us to pray. "Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving." (Colossians 4:2). "Then he [Jesus] spoke a parable to them to this end, that men ought always to pray and not lose heart." (Luke 18:1). The need to pray is as great as the authority of God which commands us: "Pray without ceasing." (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Prayer is so vital to all that God wants to do on the earth, and so essential to us, that God commands us to do it all the time. We should even deny ourselves sleep and food at times in order to pray more and with greater power. (Matthew 6:16; Luke 6:12; Luke 21:36; Colossians 4:2; 2 Corinthians 11:27).
jesus prayed
6. We pray because Jesus Christ, our model, prayed constantly Jesus was always in perfect communion with the Father. He always knew what the Father wanted, what the Father was saying and what the Father was doing. Jesus also took time to pray alone at night, in the morning before others were up (Mark 1:35), in times of crisis and temptation (Matthew 26:36, 39, 42). If the Son of God needed to pray, how much more we need it if we are going to be like Him.
7. We pray because God Hears and Answers Prayer
Jesus said, "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened unto you" (Matthew 7:7)
We need the things that God can do. In serving God, many things are outside our own power. If God doesn't do them, they won't happen! In every area of life, both spiritual and natural, God answers prayer and makes the difference!
8. We pray that our joy may be full!
John 16:24  Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
God wants our joy to be full. This can only happen when we experience answers to prayer. God wants us joyful, not sad and downcast. His answers to prayer put great joy in our hearts. That is what God wants!

Teach us to pray
HOW TO BEGIN
If you are not sure how to pray, don't despair! Everyone had to begin sometime. Just talk with God respectfully but openly. Talk with Him as your Father. Jesus taught us to pray, "Our Father ...". Recognise God as a loving Father. Recognise Jesus as a Friend and a Brother. Recognise the Holy Spirit as your Comforter and Guide. Come to the Father in Jesus' name (John 14:6; Hebrews 10:19). Begin your prayer with confession of your unconfessed sins. In this way the blood of Jesus cleanses us and prepares us to really relate to God. "Enter his gates with thanksgiving..." (Psalm 100:4). Thank God for forgiving your sins, for coming into your life, for making you His child. Then just talk with God, asking Him for whatever you need. Thank Him and praise Him for His answer. Spend time also asking for His Spirit to help you to pray. Talk to the Holy Spirit. Tell Him you want to know Him. "Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us..." (Romans 8:26). The Holy Spirit will guide you into all the truth (John 16:13) and He will teach you to pray.
PREPARING YOURSELF TO PRAY
1. Prepare your heart for fellowship with God (Psalm 24:3-5)
- Confess known sin in your life (1 John 1:6-9; 1 John 3:21-22; Hebrews 10:19)
- Forgive all who have offended or hurt you (Mark 11:25-26)
- See yourself then as dead to sin and sinless in the eyes of God. (Romans 6:11; 2 Corinthians 5:21)
2. Have a purpose in prayer. Know what you are going to pray about. It is difficult to pray fervently without knowing what you want or desire from God. We should have a clear-cut, well-defined idea about what we are asking God for. If we do not have this, we can wait on God until He reveals His purpose for our prayer time. We do this by sitting still, or by worshiping in our hearts, waiting for God to place desires there. We can also begin by telling God our appreciation for Him.
Jesus told us to ask, seek and knock. (Matthew 7:7). In asking, we must be definite. In seeking, our goal is to know God and commune with Him. In knocking (intercession) we must understand what the Lord wants to do and pray the Word for that thing.
Sometimes we do not know what to pray for, and so we can pray in the Spirit (Romans 8:26). We can pray in tongues without understanding, even for hours, according to the will of God. However, Paul stated that he prayed with the spirit and with the understanding (1Corinthians 14:15). Our whole being, including our minds, should be involved in praying. Our minds should understand what we are asking God for. However, we can pray with the spirit (in tongues) when our minds need a rest (Isaiah 28:11,12)
The fact remains, however, that when we set ourselves to pray, especially in a group, we must be agreed about what we will pray for (Matthew 18:19). The issues that are important to the Lord may become clear as we wait upon God and begin to express ourselves to God, opening our hearts to Him.
3. Know what the Word of God says regarding the thing you are praying for.
We must renew our minds with the Word so that we know God's will on the matter without a doubt. God's will is to do what He promises in the Word. By meditating on the Word and letting it transform our hearts as we renew our mind in it, we prepare ourselves to pray in faith. If we don't know what the Word says, there is a good chance that doubt will enter, and if we doubt we cannot expect to receive from God (James 1:6,7)
PRINCIPLES IN PRAYER
1. Depend on the Holy Spirit.
In prayer, you should look to the Holy Spirit to help you to pray effectively. He can give you the right words with which you can pray effectively. Its very good to ask the Holy Spirit to help you to pray. Talk to the Holy Spirit as a person, and ask Him to help you to come to the Father in Jesus' name.
Rather than rushing in to God's presence and saying many things, it is good many times to quieten your mind and wait in God's presence so you can feel God's heart and pray the things that the Holy Spirit shows you to pray for. We should realise that learning to listen to God is an important part of prayer.
Old man praying
We are told to "pray always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit" (Ephesians 6:18). It is the Spirit who is to lead us in the kind of prayer we offer to God. He gives us the power to pray.
Spend at least part of your time seeking to be filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). The more filled you are with the Spirit, the more effective will be your whole life with God.
2. Realise who you are in Christ, and on what basis God will hear you.
We must pray to the Father in Jesus' name, not our own name (John 16:24,26; Colossians 3:17) This means that we are basing our approach to God on Jesus' righteousness and goodness, not on our own. We receive His righteousness when we repent, confess our sins and believe that we receive His righteousness. We should know then that "we are the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Corinthians 5:21) and we can come directly to have an audience with God because of the sacrifice of Jesus in our place. We come as children of God (Galatians 3:26; John 1:12), as members of the royal family of God (Revelation 1:6), and NOT AS BEGGARS or STRANGERS. Therefore when we pray we should expect that God will grant results in response to our prayer. (1 Peter 3:12)
3. It is good to begin your prayer with thanksgiving and praise. "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name." (Psalm 100:4). Thank God for answers to prayer, for your salvation. Tell Him how great He is. It is good to use the Word of God to praise God. This is not a form of flattery in order to get God to give you things, but it is only fitting to thank Him and praise Him. Thanking God will increase your faith. Praising God will also increase your faith, since you will begin to fix your eyes on God, His goodness and faithfulness and greatness and power, and not on your problem.
4. Worship God. Many effective prayer-warriors recognise the importance of spending much time in worship, even up to 80% of prayer time. This deepens our fellowship with God, increases our faith and pleases the Holy Spirit. We are then more likely to really hear His voice and thus pray effectively. Worship is an attitude of bowing down, of submission and adoration towards God, based on a recognition of who He is.
pray the Word
5. Pray the Word.
God's will is to keep His promises to us. In prayer the Word of God should be in our hearts and in our mouths (Romans 10:8). In our prayers we should use the Word of God and remind God of His promises to us. This builds our faith and it also pleases God because it is an expression of our confidence in His Word and His integrity.
For example, you can pray "Father, in your Word you say that those who seek you will not lack any good thing. I thank you that you will not lack ........... . I ask you for this in Jesus' name. Thank you for it. Amen. " (Psalm 34:10).
6. Ask God for definite things that you want (Psalm 37:4)
You should pray in such a way that you will know afterwards what you prayed for and you will recognise when the answer to your prayer is manifested. Don't pray like this, "Lord, give me what you think is best. If you want this, then so be it. If not, what pleases you. Your will be done." These prayers may sound spiritual but they really express uncertainty and doubt and cannot be answered by God in a concrete way. How would you know if such a prayer was answered?
Imagine the answer and speak the answer to your prayer based on the Word. This builds faith. Don't keep speaking the problem. Constant speaking the problem magnifies fear and doubt. It makes the problem look big. Fill your mind with the solution from God's Word, not the problem.
7. Allow God to lead you to pray for others in the church and their needs, national and local situations, the government, the advance of the Kingdom of God, and the growth of the church. God is looking for people who will stand in the gap with Him in intercession for situations that are beyond their own personal interests. Make God's interests your interests.
8. Thank God for the results of prayer, both before and after you see the results. (Philippians 4:6,7). Pray with thanksgiving. Thanksgiving expresses your confidence that God has heard and answered your prayer even before you see the result.
STEPS FOLLOWING PRAYER
Usually Satan will try to suggest to you that your prayers were not heard. He will encourage you to look to the problems again and get your eyes off God. He will try to get you to talk as if you are not sure if your prayer is answered. If he succeeds in getting you to express doubt it is likely that your mouth confession will cancel the effect of your prayer. Therefore guard your mind and heart, resist the temptation to talk negatively about the situations with others, especially with those with whom you are praying.
Take firm control of your thought life. Think on positive things (Philippians 4:6-9). By praising God and confessing the relevant truths of the Word, cast down every thought that is contrary to your prayer. These thoughts many times are nothing but the suggestions of the devil, who is working to negate our faith.
Keep speaking the what the Word says on the issue at stake. "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful." (Hebrews 10:23; 2 Corinthians 4:13).
With your imagination, see your prayers as answered. Abraham was encouraged by God to imagine his descendants as the stars he saw in the sky, before there were any descendants. So God will often give us a picture for us to hold onto and encourage our faith. Speak nothing contrary to this vision.
Act in line with your faith and your confession(James 2:17). Prepare for the answer to be manifested. Examples of this can be found in Mark 6:39-40, where Jesus organises the people, preparing them to receive the blessing of the multiplied loaves and fishes. Also in John 11:39, Jesus told them to take away the stone from the tomb of dead Lazarus, a preparation for the answer to the prayer for his being raised from the dead.
TYPES OF PRAYER
As mentioned before, there are different forms of prayer. The Holy Spirit wants to lead us into a balance of all these kinds of prayer.
Worship: [Heb. shachah {shaw-khaw'} = bow down, prostrate oneself]. The true worshipper God seeks worships in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23). God wants truth in the inner parts (Psalm 51:6). In true worship, there is a total bowing down of the heart to God. In worship we express love and admiration to God which is a response to the revelation of who God is revealed to us by the Holy Spirit. Worship is voluntary submission to the love, the will and the law of God. Any hypocrisy disqualifies us for true worship. In worship we hear the voice of God.
Confession: 1. In confession of sin, we tell God with our mouth our sin. We should specifically tell God what we did, or acknowledge what we failed to do that we should have done. This is necessary to restore communion with God and is a preparation for further fellowship. 2. In confession of the Word, we tell God with our mouths what He has said in His Word. We express faith and confidence in God and God's Word verbally, and it releases the blessing of God to us. Very rarely do we rise above the level of our verbal confession before God.
Thanksgiving: This is thanking God for what He has done for us. We can thank Him both for blessings seen and those as yet unseen. It is a key to faith and it is natural and right that we give thanks always to the One from whom all good things come. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
Praise: This is declaring good things about God, both about his character (who he is) and also His actions. To say "God is good" is to praise God. There are many styles of praise. Some are noisy and exuberant, others are calm. Praise is well-expressed through music, singing, words, shouting, clapping, dancing, shouting and giving to God.
Petition: This is asking God for the things we desire. Jesus said, "Ask and you shall receive." (Matthew 7:7). We are commanded to ask.
Intercession: The ministry of intercession involves all the other types of prayer. However, the emphasis of the prayer ministry in intercession is the needs of others, and the advancement of God's interests in the world. It is not focussed on praying for things for oneself, but for others.
Waiting: (Habakkuk 2:1). This is a form of prayer in which the soul is silent and waits for God to move it or speak something by His Spirit. God promises to renew the strength of those who wait on Him (Isaiah 40:31; Psalm 27:14). We are to wait patiently on God. Through this we express to God in a practical way - not my will but Yours be done. If we are always talking in prayer we will not be able to hear what God is saying.
Warfare: (Psalm 149:6-9). This is prayer directed against the powers of darkness. Our praises to God are also a weapon directed against the powers of darkness (demons, fallen angels who are at work in the affairs of the world and the church). We pronounce against them the written judgment by reading the Scriptures of judgment against them (Psalm 149:9), we command them to be bound or to leave their positions of influence or authority in the name of Jesus. (Matthew 16:19; Mark 16:17). In "praying for the sick" we should pray prayers of command ordering the bodies of people to be healed in Jesus' name. This is a form of spiritual warfare since it is part of destroying the works of the devil. (1 John 3:8; Acts 10:38).
Praying in Tongues: (1 Corinthians 14: 2,15; Jude 20) This is a method of prayer available to those baptised in the Holy Spirit through which they can pray the will of God through words given by the Spirit. Since the mind (the understanding) is not directly involved the mind has a chance to rest and wait on God and receive revelation while this praying in tongues is taking place.
PRAYING THE WORD
Since God's Word commands us to give constant attention to the Word and to meditate on it night and day, (Proverbs 4:20-22; Joshua 1:8), it is clear that our praying should not be something separate from the Word, but rather, that God's Word should direct our praying. For example, Daniel found the promise of the time of deliverance for God's people and prayed according to that. (Daniel 9:2). His prayer acknowledged openly the truth of God's Word (Daniel 9:10-15). Many other examples could be given. Elijah's prayer for the heavens to be shut was based on the promise of God to do this if the people turned away to idols.
Praying the Word in a strict sense includes quoting it and using it in our prayers. God responds to his own Word. It will not return to Him void (Isaiah 55:11). We can take general promises from the Bible and using the words of Scripture pray as if we expect God will fulfill them for us personally. This is a powerful form of prayer.
DEDICATION TO PRAYER
God says, "Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving." (Colossians 4:2). "Men ought always to pray and not lose heart." (Luke 18:1). "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17). "Watch therefore and pray always" (Luke 21:36).
Prayer is where our dedication to God is tested. This is where our destiny is really determined. This is a command with constant application. Either we maintain communion with God or we don't. Either we depend on God and wait on Him or we don't. Either we allow ourselves to be led by Him or we don't.
Prayer, to be effective, often requires fasting. This means denying ourselves food. A normal fast is where we do not eat (although we may drink water). This intensifies our focus on God, puts down the power of our flesh and enables us to pray more easily, with less mental effort. The only way to pray without ceasing and to have maximum results in prayer is to be willing to practise self-denial where neccesary. This includes Spirit-led fasting. Fasting for a day is normal and often very necessary where we are not aware of the reason for which our communion with God is weak. The other kind of self-denial needed in the life of a person serious about prayer is "watching" or denying yourself sleep. This could mean late nights of prayer or getting up early in the morning to pray. Jesus practised both of these in His busy ministry (Mark 1:35; Luke 6:12)
The people who make a difference for God are those who are people of prayer. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. God is looking for people who willingly, out of gratitude, love and devotion, will devote themselves and their free time to this vital ministry.
Measure your love for God by your desire to spend time with Him in His presence, and the priority you put on this.
Assignment: Meditate much and often on 1 Thessalonians 5:17 "Pray without ceasing".

A Word of Encouragement by: Ptra. Mylene V. Medrano

We all go through disappointments, setbacks and things we don't understand. Maybe you prayed for a loved one, but they didn't get well. Or maybe you worked hard for a promotion, but you didn't get. You stood in faith in a relationship, but it didn't work out. One of the best things you can do is release it and let it go.If you go around dwelling on it, wondering why this didn't work out, why my loved one didn't get healed, why i didn't get that promotion, all that's going to lead do is lead to bitterness, resentment and self pity. Before long you'll be blaming others, yourself and maybe even God, You may not have understood. It may have not been fair. But when you release it, and let it go... it's an act of your  faith...

When was the last time you reminded God of  His promises. One of the most powerful ways to pray is to find a promise in the Scripture and remind God of what he said about you.

God, you said I'm blessed and cannot be cursed. God you said with long life, you would satisfy me.You said Your favor is not for a season but for  a lifetime.

God's Word will accomplish and achieve the purpose for which it is sent.It may not happen overnight, but if you will stay in faith and keep reminding God of what He promised you, God will fullfill His promises in your life.

God wants to release such favor in your life supersede what you've seen in your past.. God wants to do something awesome in your life. Awesome means astounding, remarkable, overwhelming, or breathtaking- just the opposite of ordinary. (Praise God) God has favor that is unmatched, promotion that is unparalleled, and good breaks that will be astounding.Unprecedented favor will come along your way.

God show up and do amazing things, and he will take you higher than you thought possible..
My Brethren put this in your heart... I love you.. God bless you!!

God I trust You; I know you're in control. And even though it didn't work out my way. All things are work together for my good. God has something good in our future. Disapointment may have not been fair, but it;s all part of your didvine destiny. If you will let it go and move forward, then you're going to come into something awesome that God is about to do; not ordinary like you had planned, but extraordinary like God has planned.

"God show up and do amazing things, and he will take you higher than you thought possible.."
